Overview
Join to apply for the Senior CAD Design Engineer role at The Exploration Company . Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.
You will be successful in this role if you are able to help us define and mature the vehicle architecture and support certification activities.
Responsibilities- To contribute to the definition of our overall vehicle architecture
- To contribute to the detailed definition of our vehicle
- To contribute to the certification of our vehicle
- To build the CAD physical models of the vehicle and their sub-systems on Siemens NX and contribute to choices in terms of overall architecture, aeroshape, equipment accommodation and main materials
- To mature the CAD models by adjusting the architecture, accommodation, structure materials and thicknesses based on thermo-mechanical computation loops and system trade-offs
- To collaborate closely with thermal and structural analysts, materials and manufacturing engineers to ensure compliance of the physical architecture with mission environments and manufacturing constraints
- To ensure the configuration management of the CAD models
- To manage the vehicle structure mass budget, aided by the CAD model, and track it in the overall system database
- To contribute to co-engineering sessions with other disciplines by sharing guidelines or orders of magnitude to converge on feasible solutions
- To define the volume allocations and clearances specifications towards the vehicle sub systems
- To contribute to the improvement of CAD tools and processes
- To effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data
- To provide technical documentation and drawings and participate in reviews of designed systems
- To interact with space agencies and ensure support towards the flight certification of the vehicle
- To contribute to the validation and verification of the requirements
- An advanced degree in mechanical, aerospace or manufacturing engineering
- Minimum of 7 years of experience as a CAD Design Engineer
- Strong experience with Siemens NX CAD tool
- Strong knowledge of aerospace vehicle design and associated challenges
- Strong understanding of aerospace materials, manufacturing processes, and industry standards
- Good understanding of the spacecraft certification process
- Experience in Composite design is a plus
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) is a plus
- Fluent in English. German, French and Italian are an asset
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong analysis and problem-solving skills
- Strong organising and prioritisation of tasks
