Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Firmware Development Engineer to join our dynamic R&D team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in developing firmware for 32-bit microcontrollers, with specific expertise in the STM32 family. This role will be pivotal in designing, developing, and testing the embedded software that powers our next-generation electric meters.
A key aspect of this position will be ensuring that our products comply with industry standards, particularly the BS EN 50470, RED 18031 cyber regulation and knowledge of Welmec 7.2
Experience in the electric metering industry or a similar regulated environment is highly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities • Design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality, reliable, and efficient firmware for ARM Cortex-M based microcontrollers. • Take a lead role in the firmware development lifecycle for smart electric meters and related devices. • Implement and ensure compliance with the MID (Measuring Instruments Directive - 2014/32/EU), RED 18031 cyber regulation and other relevant standards. • Collaborate with hardware engineers on board bring-up, component selection, and system integration. • Develop low-level drivers for peripherals such as SPI, I2C, UART, ADC, and timers. • Write clean, readable, and well-documented code, adhering to industry best practices like MISRA C. • Create and execute unit tests and validation plans to ensure firmware robustness and reliability. • Debug and resolve complex issues that involve both hardware and software interaction, using tools like JTAG/SWD debuggers, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers. • Participate in code reviews to maintain high standards of quality and share knowledge within the team. • Contribute to technical documentation, including design specifications and test reports.
Technical Skills & Qualifications
Essential: • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. • 3+ years of professional experience in embedded firmware development. • Proven expertise in C/C++ programming for 32-bit microcontrollers, with a strong focus on the STMicroelectronics STM32 series. • Hands-on experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS), such as FreeRTOS. • Solid understanding of microcontroller peripherals and communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, etc.). • Demonstrable knowledge and experience with the MID Directive, BS EN 50470, RED 18031 cyber regulation and Welmec 7.2, particularly its application to active electrical energy meters. • Proficiency with debugging tools (e.g., GDB, JTAG/SWD debuggers) and measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).
