We are seeking a highly motivated HVAC Design Manager (m/f/d) for our Biopharma & Life Science Business Unit in Italy, Milano.
Explore your tasks and responsibilities
- Coordinate disciplines/activities, control and forecast work area activities and deliverables against schedule
- Work in coordination with procurement and subcontracting group as well as estimate department
- Prepare material and construction requisition for HVAC/cleanroom works
- Manage the preparation of key multidisciplinary project documents (P&Id's, line list, equipment list etc.)
- Organize, contribute and prepare notes for multidiscipline meetings to affect the timely completion of the requisition
- Directly reports to the Project Manager
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, in the field of Energy Engineering, Power Generation Engineering or Thermomechanical Engineering or similar
- Several years of experience as Project Engineer or Design Manager in engineering and/or production company within the biopharma sector
- Nice-to-have: Experience of working on construction sites
- Very good knowledge of Italian and English
- Willingness to travel and work within multidisciplinary teams

A Joint Venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), Thales Alenia Space is a global space manufacturer delivering high-tech solutions for telecommunications, navigation, Earth Observation, environmental management, exploration and orbital infrastructures. We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer. The candidate will define project solutions concerning the structure subsystems for space mission vehicles, based on metallic and composite materials. They will analyze requirements at the structure subsystem level and base the design definition on these analyses. The candidate will define design solutions for structural parts and interfaces, selecting appropriate materials, processes and mechanical parts. Mass-efficient structural solutions must be in synergy with the chosen aerospace materials to withstand launch and mission loads, and possible re-entry and impact loads. FEM analyses capability is required to support the identified design solutions, along with some detailed local models to assess critical areas. The mechanical design engineer also supports the structural development process through dedicated test articles and breadboards to validate the design solutions and analyses, and must have knowledge of CAD and drawings to drive the elaboration of proposed designs. They should be able to coach and support the skill development of younger resources.
Key duties:
- Design of spacecraft structures for manned and non-manned modules and satellites, including:
- Spacecraft mechanical design based on aerospace materials, with tasks typically including:
- Definition and sizing of structural parts and interfaces by hand calculation or preliminary FEM analysis
- Selection of materials and associated surface treatments
- Definition of required tolerances
- Review of CAD models and drawings
- Finite Element Modelling with FEMAP, Patran or Hypermesh (pre and post)
- Structural static & normal mode analyses based on FEM (e.g. Nastran)
- Support the development plan of the spacecraft from mechanical aspects
- Reporting (Design and Analysis report, support to design and development plans, support to instrumentation plan for mechanical testing)
- The following tasks could be requested occasionally:
- Detailed verification through structural analysis: static, dynamic, fatigue and fracture mechanics using hand calculations or FEM
- Support to static and dynamic testing preparation, attendance and results evaluation
Skills, experience and qualifications required:
- Mechanical Engineering knowledge
- Knowledge of metallic and non-metallic technologies for materials and processes
- Knowledge of aerospace design and analysis methodologies and associated manuals (e.g. Bruhn, Roark)
- Ability applicable to mechanical product design development and verification
- Knowledge of CAD tools (e.g. CATIA) and manufacturing processes and capabilities
- Manufacturing drawing readings and knowledge
- Proficient with Windows Office package
- Knowledge of Nastran solver
- Knowledge of a FEM pre/post processor (Hyperworks, Femap, Patran)
- Additional assets / competencies:
- Matlab, Mathcad, Simulink or equivalent
- Master’s degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering
- Master or specific courses in Mechanical Design considered an asset
- Experience in Structural or Mechanical Engineering or industrial contexts for structures and mechanical systems considered an asset
- Languages: very good knowledge of English (written and spoken); French knowledge considered an asset

Your background
