Key responsibilities include

Project Management

Requirements

Languages:

• Fluent English (at least C1) and Italian (at least C1)

IT:

• Proficiency in managing social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Buffer).
• Familiarity with tools like Hootsuite, MailChimp, Canva, Joomla, WordPress, and Google Analytics.

Length and time commitment

The career path envisages a period of 24–36 months with a UP (with an increase of compensation / role) or OUT evaluations every 6–12 months. At the end of the period, the consultant will be offered a partnership position if successful.

The Role:

ERM Italy is seeking a motivated Senior Consultant with a passion for sustainability to join our growing Liability Portfolio Management and Remediation Team in Italy.

ERM’s LPMR Service is aimed at helping clients manage environmental liabilities and realize maximum value from their contaminated land challenges. We strive to develop risk-based soil and groundwater remediation strategies that protect human health and ecology while satisfying our clients’ business goals and meeting regulatory obligations. We manage their risks and clean up their balance sheets while keeping a close eye on costs and managing stakeholders’ expectations. Our global services include site investigation, risk assessment, remediation, and redevelopment strategy development and implementation to help capture value from our clients’ active facilities and discontinued operations across the globe, supported by decommissioning and demolition services where needed.

The role will be a mixed of on-site and desk-job. Our offices are based in Milan, and we expect the consultant to be able to travel and be in the office when needed although we offer flexible working arrangements as well.

Responsibilities:

• Preparation, management, and execution of environmental field work in contaminated sites’ investigation and remediation projects
• Conduct field work, including groundwater, soil, soil vapor, air, sediment, and surface water sampling, soil logging, remediation performance monitoring
• Oversee subcontractors during soil drilling and installation, operations, and maintenance of remediation systems.
• Manage environmental data quality control, interpretation, visualization, and reporting
• Focus on project delivery, supporting the project managers. Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments
• Communicate with all project stakeholders:
  colleagues, subcontractors, laboratories, regulatory agents, tenants, and clients during project preparation and field activities.
• Assist in the preparation of technical proposals, and cost estimates

Technical skills required:

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in an environmental discipline such as earth sciences, environmental sciences, hydrology/hydrogeology, geology, geochemistry, or environmental engineering.
• Fluency in Italian and English, both spoken and written. Working knowledge of another language will be considered a plus.
• Experience as environmental consultant and field manager/field technician.
• Knowledge of Italian environmental legislation, especially concerning Contaminated Sites Regulation.
• Motivated for field work, and willingness to travel primarily within Italy.
• Valid Italian driver’s license.

Other skills:

• Proactive and detail-oriented with pragmatic aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting / problem solving skills.
• Team player with the ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, and work independently under minimal supervision.
• Effective organization and analytical skills, and good communication skills both verbal and through written technical reports.
• Strong commitment to health & safety, including following established health & safety protocols.

Your New Role

As a Senior Environmental Consultant in our Rome office, you will be part of a successful team composed of geologists, engineers, geotechnical experts, environmental scientists, chemists, biologists, and more. Working collaboratively as part of an international network, you will be involved in a wide range of projects, primarily focused on contaminated site management, expert services, permitting, due diligence, impact assessments, water treatment, health and safety, climate risk, and sustainability. You will contribute to a sustainable future within an open, collaborative, and empowering culture.

Key Responsibilities :

• Design site investigations and remediation plans
• Manage field data collection with an environmental focus
• Analyze and interpret environmental data in line with project goals
• Develop draft-level environmental remediation designs
• Prepare technical reports, including basic reports (e.g., field activity and investigation results) and advanced reports (e.g., statistical studies of background threshold values, risk assessments, site conceptual model reconstruction, hydrogeological models, remediation designs, etc.)
• Create technical proposals and reports in both Italian and English

About You

• B.Sc. or M.Sc. (3 / 5 years) degree in environmental science, earth sciences, geology, environmental engineering, or a related field
• 5–6 years of experience in site characterization and remediation
• Basic or proficient user of ArcGIS (or similar software)
• Strong experience in field investigation work and data analysis
• Ability to develop a site conceptual model from both geo-hydrogeological and contamination perspectives
• Native-level fluency in Italian and strong written and spoken communication skills in English
• Ability to draft clear, concise documents and presentations
• Availability for daily / weekly fieldwork and business trips
